Additional New York Knicks Info

The New York Knicks (short for Knickerbockers) were founded in 1946 as part of the Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA in 1949. The Knicks had winning records in each of their first 9 seasons, and they advanced to the NBA Finals 3 times, but lost each time.

The Knicks found success in the 1970s under the direction of coach Red Holzman and a talented roster featuring future Hall of Famers Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Bill Bradley, and Dave DeBusschere. The team won their first NBA Championship in 1970, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers. The teams would battle in the finals twice more in the next 3 years, and New York would claim another NBA Championship in 1973.

As the Knicks’ roster of superstars began to age, the team slowly fell out of consistent post-season contention. In 1985, the New York Knicks drafted rookie Patrick Ewing. During his 15 seasons with the franchise, New York Knicks Ticket Holders saw the team make consistent post-season appearances, and even advance to the NBA Championship finals, but they never did win a title.

Ewing was traded in 2000, and the Knicks hired former Pistons all-star Isaiah Thomas as president. Despite the team’s payroll growing to unprecedented levels, the team continued to perform poorly. Thomas was fired in 2008, and a new coaching staff brought in star players Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.

After the addition of Stoudemire and Anthony, the New York Knicks made regular post-season appearances, and won a division title in 2013. The team’s success was short-lived, however, and they performed poorly over the next few seasons.

New York Knicks Ticket Holders watch the storied franchise play at the iconic Madison Square Garden. Tickets for the Knicks’ appearances at the Garden are available at Golden Tickets.
